Zanshin's newest Black Belts

Thomas Edwards and Adam Edwards (no relation) are Zanshin's newest black belts as they were put through a gruelling examinaton by Wales' highest graded Shukokai Instructor Gareth Edwards 6th Dan.
Marks of 57 and 55 proved that both boys passed with flying colours.
Our congratulations go to the boys who are a credit to the association and their instructors.
Zanshin will register them as Shodan Black Belts with UKASKO by the end of this year. This is essential for the grade to be recognised world wide.

By George, our Christmas party was the Best yet

On December 18th following a very successful grading at Ysgol Yr Hendre, over 50 local kids from all over the area were treated to a wonderful party and disco which was organised by Zanshin and parents at the club.

Gareth would like to thank the wonderful support he received from parents and students alike. The party kicked off promptly at 5pm with an "all you can eat style buffet". Even Father Christmas turned up with presents and booty-bags for everyone.

Prizes of mobile phones and toys were won by the children in games of pass the parcel, musical chairs and statues. Even the adults joined in on one very competitive adult musical chairs.

Hendre school was full to bursting with an estimated 100 people celebrating Christmas in one amazing night.

Photos of the night can be viewed and downloaded on the sideshow above. Once again thanks to everyone who supported us. It's so good to see everyone club together to have so much fun.

Pass the parcel with a new mobile phone the top prize.

Martial Art Badges

Zanshin Karate held their third martial arts badge night in November and it was a great success. Some of the students are shown above with their achievements. The badge system encourages students to practice their techniques thus achiving a higher standard. Gareth Edwards Zanshin instructor said "We have been looking for a high quality badge award system for quite some time and having previously tried another system, I believe we have now found the best karate badge system on the market called Martial Arts Badges.

Our Sensei Gareth Edwards 6th Dan reaches a milestone

Turning 50 is a big occasion in any man's life and one Sensei Edwards was not looking forward to. Nevertheless on November 1st he was overcome with emotion. He received two wonderful presents, the first from his wife and son and the other from his dedicated students and parents at Zanshin.

As you all know Sensei is a big football fan and enjoys all the patter and leg pulling that goes with it. His favourite team is United and his favourite player of all time is Cantona. So you can imagine his face when he received a fantastic signed photo of the great man himself from his wife and son and a signed 40th Anniversary Munich shirt from his karate students.

Gareth is on cloud nine and seems to have forgotten that he is 50! The spring in his step suggests he is back in his 30's!

Gareth said "I was overcome with emotion at receiving such wonderful presents. If anyone would have asked me what I would like for my birthday then these two items would be top of my list (after the Ferrari of course)."

"A big thank you to everyone who made my birthday so special and made me realise how much people care, all I have to do now is convince my wife to allow me to put them up in the living room???"

Sensei Edwards receives his 6th Dan from world renowned instructor Roy Stanhope 9th Dan Shukokai.

Our association instructor Gareth Edwards received his 6th Dan on a Phil Mead course in Knutsford Cheshire, the highest graded Shukokai karate instructor in Wales. Club instructor Reuben Florence 3rd Dan was the first to congratulate him on the course.
